Roaring News and Events from Vera and District Lions

Vera and District Lions has a HUGE October looming. The charity is putting the ‘fun’ into fundraising with at least six very different events to have people roaring and raging, racing and rocking. Of course, behind the fun is sorne important work. The Vera and District Lions is a not-for-profit group, part of Lions Clubs lnternational, which works in the local area. The charity is open to people of any nationality.

The Vera Lions have groups of more than 30 members and volunteers who fundraise. The charity concentrates support within the local a rea -which is vast, stretching from Vera to Albox. Most communicate in English to keep life simple, but people of all nationalities both volunteer and receive help. Fundraising comes largely, but not exclusively, from fun events and a friendly charity shop in Turre, open three mornings a week. Vera Lions’ list of cha rita ble donations and aid is endless. lt includes a monthly financia! contribution to Mojácar Red Cross, supporting food banks across the region, ongoing support for Asprodalba (a charity for people with mental disability) and support for the local children’s home. lt additionally helps individua Is and families in need.

The charity would love to do more, and there are plenty of volunteer roles from helping pick up larger furniture and goods for the shop and serving customers in the shop, through to helping out at, or even organising, events, and helping those in need. lt’s not always about the money-sometimes just accompanying someone to hospital can be life changing work.
